| We have a 2010 800 4x4, and I have a 2012 800 6x6.
The 2010 runs great and is a great farm go getter. It is used for scouting, general farm run around and light rock picking. We really haven't had any troubles with it. The drive belt got a flat spot and caused a hiccup when driving slowly, but one was available through NAPA and was easy to change thanks to YouTube. It was purchased with about 2500 miles and was used to check irrigation equipment. Lots of light use miles.
My 2012 being the 6x6 is the work horse, the used and abused one. I bought it in 2013 after a tiler had used it for ayear and traded it. Its a tough little bugger. But it has had its problems. It gets a lot of heavy use. Rock picking, and spraying with a 60 gallon sprayer most of the summer. We use it to pull wagons and such around the farm too.
A wire frame nylon cab with nylon doors and power steering were the two best things I got for mine. The 6x6 is a pig to steer without it. I purchased mine through an online company.
Somewhere between 2010 and 2012, they had some problems with fuel overheating, and vapor locking. Mine did it. The 2010 never has, I think it is too early for the issue. They re routed the fuel line on the newer ones I believe and that caused some of the issues. To fix mine, I needed a new fuel pump from a 2014 plus an ECM flash. This raised the fuel pressure, and tweaked some settings. It ran better, but still too hot for comfort. My wife does a lot of slow spraying in the summer, and it just smells hot. Since then I have added a new larger radiator and fan, as well as a remote oil filter and cooler. It runs much cooler when used spraying.
My wife decided to try and see exactly how capable it was after a 2" gulley washer and buried it last year. Trying to back out, the ring and pinion grenaded. I put all new bearings and a new ring and pinion in. I sourced the r&p through partzilla and the bearings through Amazon. A fraction of the cost from Polaris.
The 6x6 has a different transmission than the 800 4x4's. Mine is a separate case. Being as it is the same one used in 570's I believe, I think it's a little too light for a 6x6 application.
My wheel bearings also have needed replacing. That happened around 5k miles.
The fuel issue and bearings wearing out are known complaints with Ranger 800's. I learned a lot on Ranger forums.
I'd buy one of either again.
The 900's are supposed to be even better, I don't have any experience with them. | |
