I still have one, in fact this is only my third season with it, & no its not only three years old either.  I can count 4 of them within 5 miles of our farm.  Mine came from the neighbors two miles away.  Use it for wheat and soybeans, I will not run fertilizer thru it.  After last spring I rebuilt the gearboxes since they were original.  Put plastic cup flighting in the auger (787 tank).  I agree about the packer wheel scrapers, mine did not have them so I designed and built my own.  Easy to work on compared to the new single disk JD.
