Subject: RE: East Central Arkansas Water

Central Arkansas
Construction is ongoing on the White River Irrigation project. The Grand Prairie region west of White River should really benefit as they often drill 300-500 ft. for wells. On the alluvial soils between White River and Cache River, water levels are 18- 30 ft. and not decreasing, but increasing in some cases. The last nine years have seen a 100 (2009) and a 500 year flood (2011) on White River. East of Bayou DeView, reports I hear are that groundwater levels are dropping to the point that landowners are getting concerned in some areas, but not all.

The whole region is heavily irrigated--it is a necessity. Many on farm reservoirs have been built in the last 20 years.

Arkansas irrigation specialists have told us for years that we start to late and quit too early. Mississippi specialists are saying that farmers irrigate too much.
