Pierce county WI | When I was a professional mechanic, a long time ago, I worked with a lot of different mechanics. A couple stand out. The one didn't even finish high school, and could fix anything. He built his own skid loader out of homemade parts. His tools and toolbox were were old craftsman with a snap on top chest added. The other one had an old craftsman box that the lock quit and casters went bad. He built his own frame with heavy duty casters and a plate that slid in front of the drawers with a pad lock. He was a guru with hydraulics and Mack trucks. His service chest was a 5 gallon pail. Then I worked with a couple guys with giant snap on chests that were special edition. One hired a roll-off wrecker to move his box when he quit. If you opened his box, you would find everything snapon, but I wouldn't let him change oil in my truck. The other guys had a mix of everything, lots of cheap tools, and tons of homemade specialty tools. I only worked professionally as a mechanic till 2002, and half the time I was driving. I own a few snap on tools, and some Mac, but the tools I buy now are the American made Menards tools. I have lost way more tools than I've ever broken. I stayed out of the snap on truck early on when I figured out that they weren't paying me any more for the tools I used. Then the fact that I had friends that made as much or more than I did that didn't have to buy thousands of dollars in tools to do their job that there had to be a better living.... That said, your chisel plow doesn't care what kind of tractor you pull it with, your grain doesn't care what semi you haul it in, but we do! So if tools are your thing, good for you, at least you can write them off! | |
