blazer21 - 3/15/2017 08:20 there will be a truck going in with feed about every day so I didn't want the barn to be on a gravel road where it gets awfully soft in the spring and makes a mess out of everything.
How many days of feed will you be able to have on hand in the event of a big blizzard moving in?
Sorry, i need to make a correction... I was thinking about the two different set ups where i'm from... 4000 hd site with 24,000 gal feed storage and a 2000 hd site with 12,000 gal storage...
My barn will have 20,000 gal storage for 2400 hd so depending on the size of the pigs. In the beginning i'll probably be able to get 4-6 days feed storage and when they are big, it will probably be 2 full days of feed storage... We have had some hard feed hauling days this winter and last winter for sure but we make sure to get everybody completely full right before the weather hits and then back on the road right after with trucks already loaded in most cases.... feed can be hauled around the clock from the ethanol plant and the drivers we have are prime time. if the weather clears off and feed is needed in the middle of the night, they will be out there hauling....But to clarify on your question... At fats, I should be able to get 2 full days of feed storage, possibly 3.
