Subject: RE: hog barn help needed

SW MN Fulda
Here is the manure sample from last fall.... then with the current prices for fertilizer given in our area of N = $.36/lb, P = $.37/lb and K = $.26/lb along with Sulfur at $.60/lb.....Making the manure value $49.39/1000gal without sulfur...Sulfur adds another $7.80/1000gal. (numbers are using 75%, 80%, and 90% available first year)

Liquid fed pigs are getting fed about a 20% DM ration. Stillage (product from ethanol plant), and ice cream....Not sure why yet but the N is so much higher because the Nitrogen from the Stillage is not used by the pig so it goes straight out the back end and in the pit. The U of M have been doing research on this liquid feeding stuff the last few years. Feed Genius is the name of the feed system i'll be putting in.
I'd be happy to set you up with the contact to the guy who owns the pigs and is doing the feeding like this. He's looking to get more barns on it.

In a 2000 hd barn with an 8 ft pit, needs to be pumped spring and fall and there isn't much wiggle room on timing... So even if they only pump 6 ft out spring and fall, thats 12 ft total manure divided by 125,000 gals/ ft = 1,500,000 gals. Feed and water aren't being wasted. There is a little feed spill over sometimes when the system feeds but not very much, especially with the new type of trough feeders we are going to.

Not a lot of people have heard about it much because most integrators are also making their own feed, so they are making money on the feed side of it too... Theres 8000 hd on feed around here and then there is someone in iowa (not sure on location) that feeds 18,000 hd.

I know numbers seem to good to be true but they are definitely something to look into in my opinion. It could change from having people just putting up a barn for the long term, to actually profiting something right away.

Let me know what thoughts are please.
