you might as well build a 10000 head barn when it comes to a liquid feed barn because your going to be living in it 24/7 working on stuck valves etc, and its not wait till morning type thing either it needs fixed as soon as it happens or else, also if your going to put one in go to europue and buy yourself the highest quality system and most expensive again going back to long term maintenance.

A 30 savings on feed is far fetched maybe $5 more year over year is more likely when demand is high for by products, also your stock men skills have to be top notch, yes the trough senors predict feed curves but you still need a eye to make adjustments because you will either waste feed or slow the growth of the animals, I personally don't think the 5 dollar savings is worth the work, and if your actually getting 30 savings just wait for everyone to start using liquid feeding and the demand for by products will lessen the gap its what happened here there is no advantage to the system anymore. Also every pen needs to recorded on deaths, removals, or sick events and entered into the computer immediately.

I have contracted liquid feed barns before also to try the system out this barn was also owned by a very good pig men and barn manager, but my dry barns always won in cost, management ease, time to market, and the biggest thing was my packer always commented the dry fed hogs were more consistent in meat quality and yield

Here in Canada liquid feed was the big thing in 2000s for finishing barns and all of sudden the last few years a good chunk of them have been switched back to dry, just the die hard dutch guys have them left. My feed rep has a binder full used liquid feeding classifies if your looking for parts.

Just remember pig farming on paper is easy.

You also mentioned that the manure value is higher on a liquid fed barn, this tells me a lot of feed is ending up in the pit or the feed is over formulated.

Also for scale barns are you looking for used scale systems and penning, only 2 years old? I have lots of it for sale if you want the stuff, I had a 4800 head with auto sorts, they are now pen barns for good reason.
