one guy did it. kudos to you. but.. you used rye for a cash crop. you also graze your own cattle on it (many of us sold our herd a long time ago) but you did spend whatever it took to get it growing, this is not "nothing". once again, good job, you actually tried to make this work for you.
I see almost zero people trying to do this, they typically hire a helo to "seed" it, at gov expense (you and me) then try to get it killed before they plant a cash crop. this is not what you did, and it sure doesn't look like profit to me.
growing a "cover" crop for two months out of the growing season doesn't look to me like it builds any OM at all but it sure did bring in a bunch of Palmer Am. I sence a bit of jealousy in your reply. I bet you are having 2nd thoughts about getting rid of your herd years ago. |
