Subject: How about this dvswia

Callao, Missouri
i grew rye and vetch for a seed crop in 2013, used up the nitrogen that the drought corn couldn't use from 2012. Probably my most profitable acres if I had sold it all (kept it for my own seed use).

Then I grazed yearlings on the volunteer rye/vetch that fall. Got a pretty good gain and I spent nothing.

2014 planted milo into the vetch, using vetch to provide some of the nitrogen. This didn't work as well as I would have liked it but I think it still provided value.

2015 planted beans.

2016 combined wheat with volunteer vetch. The vetch grossed a couple hundred pounds/acre. The only cost was it was a huge pain to harvest and I did pay a cleaner to separate the two.

Fall calvers are out on that field right now grazing volunteer wheat/vetch.

All this benefit came from one seeding of rye and hairy vetch. I'm not recommending that the original poster do this, just simply pointing out there is money to made using cover crops if a person would like to try something besides corn/beans.
