A beef cow will get fat on feed a dairy cow won't eat. My Dad told me that years ago, and it is Oh-so-true. Feed a beef cow like you would a dairy cow, and you'll about kill it.
Makes sense, the dairy cow is putting out 70-90# milk/day. She needs LOTS more energy than a beef cow which only has to survive and get/stay pregnant.
I am sure feeding beef steers is a diffferent story.
