One reason they may be on seperate switch is this.

I have seen trucks parked with those top lights on and nothing else.

This lets me or others know that there is a truck parked there.

It works well for me when I am combining at night and the truck returns from the elevator and I want to dump on the truck or know where it is so I do not run into the truck.

The truck batteries do not run down very fast, as compared to having all the lighs left on and the truck not running.
