Alfalfa as we all know is a perennial. Sharpen as a previous poster said will whack it. Won't kill it very well as it's not systemic. I see lots of questions here like this.

Killing alfalfa means use glyphosate at 1-2 qts/a depending on what weeds you have (perennial grasses, chickweed etc) and then add in 2,4-d ester. Usually use a pint/a, can go up to a qt in Spring as plants are translocating nutrients the wrong way for an easy kill. Make sure you have 4-8" of new growth and pick a few days where it's in the 60's or warmer (F °) for the herbicides to translocate well.

Easy kill with a few planned steps.
