Subject: RE: Strip Till in 22" rows

We raise sugarbeets which is why we wish to stay at 22". Currently we do broadcast VRT our fertilizer and we ridge till our seed bed for beets usually following spring wheat. Our ground is very flat and can be very susceptible to blowing in the spring without the protection of cover crop or the previous crop stove. Corn is quickly replacing spring wheat production in our area and we need to find a way to handle the residue while not giving up yield for a proceeding row crop. To me, strip tilling is a no brainer if we can implement it effectively in 22" rows. A few people in our area have dabbled with it in experiments, but no one that I'm aware has implemented it in their operation.
