135 degree split point bits drill better, don't need a pilot hole and don't jump around from the center punch mark because they cut to the center. I have a couple sets from Menard's that I haven't yet applied. 12 piece set numbr 236-5167 1/16" to 3/8". 160 pieces number 242-3567 was on sale last summer. Many copies of the smallest sizes 3/64" up to 1/2"

I have bought a few larger 135 degree split points at various places including McMaster-Carr and that one from McMaster-Carr is still good after drilling more than 60 holes in 1/2 and 3/4" steel. I did touch up the cutting edges after about 50 holes.
