I've wondered that too. Most people do preplant nh3 here and not strip till. Most of the applicators are odd number rows 11, 13, and 15 shank. I think they did this to save space since they put the shank in the middle. I would rather have an even row applicator, because the tractor tires run over four rows on the one I have now.
