In strip till, first you apply the NH3 with a strip bar, also trying to create an elevated strip which you later can plant on top of. Have had my current planter about 10 years, and the row markers have never been used, as I plant on top the previously created NH3 strips, which with some time and weather, have usually mellowed into a very nice seedbed. Modified no-till.
Preferably the number of shanks on the strip bar and the number of rows on the planter are the same or a divisible thereof, but with the increasing accuracy of GPS, that's no longer a must.
