I feel like I do a fairly good job cropping and tending my cow herd. But sometimes I struggle with the business side of agriculture. I'm not complaining, I'm not broke and not starving or even close to it. But my question is what do you all do to make your selves better businessmen.
Get a job off the farm and make farming a hobby. Around here the only ones that can really afford to farm full time are the ones that won the sperm lottery, married into it, or some of the older fellas that spent 4-6 decades working for peanuts and have had a pretty good run the last few years. Nearly impossible to start from nothing and created a well-run business from nothing unlike other professions.
A few other things to keep in mind: 1
)There are no friends in farming. 2
)Try to take any emotion out of a decision and decide if it makes good business sense. 3
) Be willing to piss some people off
