Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
Take a look at the chart you put up in your post above. What factor accounts for the dramatic shift in the dollar from before July 2014 and April 2015? The price of oil? Why? What is the one commodity that the US still buys quite a bit of? That's right oil. In July 2014 we imported some 294 million barrels/month, in Nov. 2016 we imported 310 million barrels per month. In July 2014 the Brent spot price was $110/barrel, by Nov. 2016 it was $42/b. The difference is some $32 billion per month ($388 billion per yr.) vs $12.7 billion per month ($152 billion per yr.) What happens when the US buys oil, it pays for it in dollars and those dollars need to get converted to local currency. Three years ago there was $20 more billion/ month being pushed into the currency markets that were looking for foreign currency to exchange. What happens when you have a lot of something ($US) that you need to exchange for a more scarce commodity (other currencies)? That's right the relative value of the more plentiful item goes down.
Trump may try to drive the dollar down but he's going to be pushing against the natural order of things. And we all know what happens when you try to force a system.
