I doubt that you need worry too much about a shortage of illegal labor. First of all, actual fugitive entry has declined very substantially. Second, apparently nowadays, the primary source of newly arrive illegal aliens is to simply overstay their visas. Why hike across the desert when you can just walk through the front door. If that is the case then building a wall will be quite "inutile".
Besides, I continue to have faith in the limitless resourcefulness of clever employers to discover or devise ways to circumvent the rules. As Charles Dickens so brilliantly observed: "So do the shadows of our own desires stand between us and our better angels, and thus their brightness is eclipsed."
