Crete - 1/26/2017 05:47 Why is USDA (tax payer funded?) graders stamping that stamp? Simple answer, graders are payed by the processor for that stamp! Your stein prime cab stamp is worth $10 more to your processor-hopefully he is passing that $10 a hundred on to you!
!977-1978 time frame in 4-h I had a 1300# angus -Holstein cross feeder that I showed at the Crawford County fair and came in third place at the carcass division-the next week we all got to go to IBP slaughter line and are carcass were judged-ended up 14th place hanging in the cooler out of 25 I have not had the 80% choice pen of steins everyone toots about and I could never get the gain that everyone gets-I have tried them several times in my freezer and have always been happy with my more finished black or red cattle. Somewhere along the line they drop the ball on true angus-same as the Hereford program,
We've never had a load of steins than graded less than 90% choice/prime. Usually 30% of the load will be prime.
