West Salem, Illinois | Grandpa gets them for me by the pound from the Mennonites, he calls them hedge steples!? They are short only about an inch to the top of the arch and about 1/2 space between the legs. Use a 16 oz hammer because I always hit my finger and thumbs to drive them. Have to check yearly and replace as needed. Have a few stretches that are fifty years plus.
Now what I have been doing is replacing these stretches with hi tensile. I set hedge corners and braces and set a hedge post every hundred feet or more depending on terrain. In between I set fiberglass posts, on the hedge the three middle wires are hot so I use the plastic nail on insulators and use 1 1/2 inch blue concrete screws. On the bottom and top wires I staple the wire with the same hedge steples. | |
