The lime itself should have little effect on the wheat however three tons of lime without any means of incorporation could create problems when it comes time to apply nitrogen to the wheat. That amount of lime on the surface will likely create a high pH condition on the soil surface for a year or two. Volatilization of surface applied nitrogen fertilizers such as urea can be significant in high pH conditions. If you are going to apply the lime you might want to look at using liquid UAN instead of urea when applying the spring time N application.

Better yet, consider applying the lime to the soil after the wheat is harvested.

Going forward, try to limit lime applications in no-till situations to a maximum of two ton per acre in a single application.
