I have never tried 60". I have seen rigs used in cotton that applied N in a skip row pattern, but I don't know of any studies comparing the results.
One reason we stay with 30" is that we follow corn with wheat. If corn does not use all the N, we can see the wheat picking it up. You would really see some green streaks in the wheat if corn N had been put down on 60".
