It really was based on heavy use of derivative trading/marketing tools (weather plays, crop insurance, etc) to theoretically remove risk and "lock-in" rewards on a big scale. The concerns I had with it when I saw it was that the premiums paid for the risk management along with the captive supply generation would eventually kill what open market would remain for those not in the loop.
One's opinion of it could be vastly different depending on whether a person valued independence or believed in the industrial agricultural model more. |
