Wi | Color means nothing, but since it's a truck, assuming the coolant is very red (not pink) it is probably an OAT coolant which can be easily found at truck shops and truck stops. Auto stores are not the best at carrying heavy duty coolants that you need for wet sleeve engines.
If you don't know what's in it, it's hard to maintain it. I would change it and then you will know what you have. Without knowing, you cant maintain the inhibitors. If it's not an OAT, it will need them added regularly as needed, if it is an OAT you do not want to be adding them. OATs still deplete as well(just much slower), some have a one time extender, others don't.
If you don't want to change it but are worried about mixing coolant types (mixing 10-20% can be okay, but not ideal), test the freeze point and if low enough, just add the makeup with distilled water.
Don't skimp on the coolant stuff, skipping an oil change or two will do less damage than poor coolant maintenance. | |
