It's hard to say where the Pima production will be in California the factors affecting that planting decision are more complex.

The recent attack on dairy cattle could push some of that acreage from feed toward cotton on the short term. Plus low corn prices are dragging those feed prices down.

The $15 per hour labor could push that acreage towards cotton or wheat where labor is siginificantly less than other crops.

On the flip side there has already been a significant shift away from cotton towards higher value crops like almonds. With the downturn of almond prices I wouldn't think there would be much more going in but I said the same thing in the late 90's.

In all reality it's hard to say where long staple cotton is heading. There still is other world production areas that could affect that market such as Australia or the cotton coming out of Egypt can affect that sector.
