Yes, they last longer, especially if your voltage is higher than 120V. The problem is they are not as bright as the same wattage lower voltage bulb. As to why, The farther from the transformer the more voltage drop so on large farmsteads for example close to the transformer might be higher than 120 volts and farther from the transformer could be lower than 120 volts, or so I'm told.
