this was in 1993, the year of the 40, 40, 40, corn.(40 percent moisture, 40lb test weight, 40 bu./acre). it was late fall, and just happened to be up at the local coop, when a acquaintance of mine hauled in a semi load of corn, they probed him, then there was kinda a little commotion at the scale desk, the grain merchandiser and the scale person were having a discussion about what to do with this load of corn.

after a confab with the general manager, they asked the farmer to park the truck off to the side and come in.

after the moisture and test weight discounts he was going to put like $75 in his pocket on that semi load of corn, he ended up taking it home.

I was at the elevator when some one brought in some of the 40/40/40 he took it back home as he would have ended up owing on it, mine wasn't that bad, but it was still a 5 year bank note to pay off the operating loan from that year. good times!
