Those 'weak' rows are the pollinators, or male rows. They are not always the weak rows, some varieties they are more vigorous than the female rows. I plant with an 8 row planter, the 2 rows on the left side of the planter are filled with male seed, the other 6 are female seed. When I make a round with the planter it will be making a 4-12-4 planting configuration. Some others plant on a 2-5-2, 4-8-4, and I used to plant a 4-14-4.

Clear as mud right, speaking of mud, WOW we are getting hammered now.
