NEWGUY, yea we are on 30's, and we don't touch the roots, unless I doze off on the cultivator.

Great link you posted Don, I had never seen that one, describes the process very accurately. What do you mean ugly crop? They are beautiful, sugar beets have been our bread and butter crop for more than 50 years, during pollination they give off a heavy, musky odor, I always call it the 'smell of money'.
