Day Co. SD | Go to the agent that did the transaction. Did you split the closing transaction costs with the seller? If so the agent owes you a clear explanation without any additional charges. It boils down to what the purchase agreement says.
If you go to a lawyer, I guarantee you he is gonna pick up the phone, call the closing agent, report what agent said and then charge you a few hundred.
Get some answers from the agent. If those answers are vague or dodgy, file a complaint against him with the real estate commission.
If the seller paid the transaction costs and agent, save your energy and see whats left on Jan 1.
If the agent tells you clearly something you don't want to hear, accept it and chalk it up to lessons learned.
