I think if you look hard into numbers you will find that those numbers are a little inflated. Most farm balance sheets are pre-tax. Then some of us had some thin years with not much paid towards SS wages. As far as price supports farm subsidies are very small compared to let say defense or education or highway contracts- the list goes on. Oil has its hand in government money long before farm programs so let us compare apples to apples. I know our farm would not be in existence without these programs as would a lot of others. You can argue that it would have eventually brought supply in line with demand but I am thinking at a higher cost to consumers.
