Faunsdale, AL | The zero back pressure return dumps the oil into the rear end housing where it must be picked back up by the transmission pump 10 gpm? and sent through the filter to the front pump 15 gpm??. Zero pressure returns are good for case drains of hydraulic motors. As an example, JD uses a zero pressure return from the seal area of the front hydraulic pump. It is a small plastic line that runs along the right frame rail.
Returning oil flow that does not have to be zero back pressure into the filter circuit helps maintain full flow from the front pump AND pushes enough extra that some goes through the oil cooler before returning to the transmission sump. If you have high demand functions and return the oil to the sump, either the front pump will chatter or there will be little excess to go through the cooler....or both.
I believe brazing a diverter onto the elbow that screws into the side of the filter housing would be a good idea. | |
