Subject: Re: Anyone burn for weeds?

South Central MN
We just ran a field cultivator over the entire field twice and planted. There wasn't anything done post emergence before the burning. That field turned out fairly decent. We've been organic maybe 7 years, but we're still trying to get our soils to adjust to the program. Our problem this year was late emerging waterhemp. We had some pop through late August after we had walked the fields. Kinda frustrating. We still have plenty of weed issues, but Dennis' fields (he's been organic for at least 20 years??) are usually on par with any conventional fields. Just takes time and practice to get it right. That being said, you can really tell a difference between our conventional and organic soils, and our agronomist has been impressed.
