1. Do all Soundguard cabs have pre-drilled holes for the joystick cables? As far as I can tell mine has no pre-drilled holes but I would hate to drill holes if I'm just not noticing the pre-drilled ones. I do see what looks like might be a steel plug in the floor that could be knocked out? Before I saw that I was thinking about modifying the plate in the picture to allow the cables to pass through it.
Modify that plate by notching it out. Nice to remove the plate and have plenty of room to put cables through floor. If you put a hole in the middle you have to poke each cable through.
2. What's the best way to supply the valve with hydraulic pressure?
The directions provide a hose for and say to use one of the SCV's to provide pressure. I know I don't want to do that because I need both SCV's and I don't want to be switching them back and forth.
I also have read that you should install a power beyond block and provide flow to the loader valve through that. I bought one with that in mind. But more recently I have read to T off of the supply line for the SCV's and the rockshaft. I've read that's cheaper and makes for faster loader controls. Is the line in the attached picture the correct line? This is under the cab in front of the axle on the left side.
Don't think so. That might be a return line from the left SCV??? The supply line to rockshaft should be on the right side. There is a special swivel elbow fitting that is available to put in the rockshaft housing. Not sure why it was offered instead of the regular one with a lock nut, but I know we had a lot of trouble with the o-ring blowing out on that one until we swapped for the new type. Not sure you will be happy with a line T there. Should be fine on a supply line to the left SCV as mentioned earlier.
If you already have the power beyond block, I would just use it for your supply. If you mount it to the left SCV, I have heard you can return oil to it and the flow goes to the filter (through the line you have picture of?) If you mount the block to the right SCV, use the port on the filter to get return flow back to the charge pump circuit instead of the transmission sump.
3. The tractor has a low pressure return installed in the bottom of the filter housing. Should I tee into that for the return? Most of the low pressure returns I've seen have been installed into the end of that filter housing rather than the bottom line that.
That's fine. Someone drilled it differently. Works the same.
4. For guys that run a grapple or other hydraulic attachment on a 158, do they make steel lines to neatly run up to the front of the loader line for the lift and bucket functions or do you just have to run hoses up there?
Never saw a set of steel lines. Hoses are pretty simple.
