| I have a 1973 JD 4430 with a Soundguard cab and a JD 158 loader. I'm in a situation where I need the remotes on the back and the loader to work regularly throughout any given day. I also need auxiliary hydraulics for an attachment that will be on and off of the loader throughout the day.
I've only got two SCV's so I'm installing the three function loader valve under the battery box on the right side and the joystick in the cab to eleminate the need to switch hydraulic hoses around on a regular basis.
I have several questions about the install:
1. Do all Soundguard cabs have pre-drilled holes for the joystick cables? As far as I can tell mine has no pre-drilled holes but I would hate to drill holes if I'm just not noticing the pre-drilled ones. I do see what looks like might be a steel plug in the floor that could be knocked out? Before I saw that I was thinking about modifying the plate in the picture to allow the cables to pass through it.
2. What's the best way to supply the valve with hydraulic pressure?
The directions provide a hose for and say to use one of the SCV's to provide pressure. I know I don't want to do that because I need both SCV's and I don't want to be switching them back and forth.
I also have read that you should install a power beyond block and provide flow to the loader valve through that. I bought one with that in mind. But more recently I have read to T off of the supply line for the SCV's and the rockshaft. I've read that's cheaper and makes for faster loader controls. Is the line in the attached picture the correct line? This is under the cab in front of the axle on the left side.
3. The tractor has a low pressure return installed in the bottom of the filter housing. Should I tee into that for the return? Most of the low pressure returns I've seen have been installed into the end of that filter housing rather than the bottom line that.
4. For guys that run a grapple or other hydraulic attachment on a 158, do they make steel lines to neatly run up to the front of the loader line for the lift and bucket functions or do you just have to run hoses up there?
