Subject: RE: Adding water to ration

Wellington, MO
We are mixing 2000# batches for our 650# calves. 380#-corn, 380#-eye silage, 380#-ground hay, 860#-water. This is for 23 hd. We just put enough water in to knock down the dust in the feed wagon. Makes the feed stay mixed and virtually no sorting in the bunk. Our Cattle will consume more dry matter this way.
We will do the same thing without the rye in the ration. Only problem is if not using silage in the ration when very cold. Need the heat to keep frozen chunks of hay from forming or else have to go a little drier.
