We've probably bought north of a hundred grand worth of stuff on eBay and I have not yet run into this terrible fraud that everyone seems to think they are going to find the minute it is mentioned.

Have bought several times that much through other internet sources and haven't found the 'big problems' there, either.  Several tractors, some semi tractors, and a terragator we have seen for the first time when the truck drove in the yard with it.  

You don't set out expecting a ten year old machine to still have the window sticker on the glass, but if you have reasonable expectations and any communication ability at all this is not all that difficult.
