Hello Jim,
the whole plant is chopped making ensilage and than put into a "steel Cow", as the fermenter is also called. The "methane" is than used to power generators.
Concerning your set up I keep it in the back. there will be no trash and the soil will, at least for my expectation, be more too soft than to hard.
