Local farm supply had a bad problem with mice and rats in their bagged feed warehouse. Pest control guys tried a lot of things but most control baits had little effect. One guy finally told the owners to try the old standby when all else fails..... anti freeze in small pans in areas where mice and rats were seen. Problem solved in short time.
