After getting home tonight I tracked down the service manual online. First procedure for code F104 is to check the resistance of the shifter circuit board between pins 3 and 5 on the harness. Should be less than 2500 ohms. Mine tested 5 million. Did the tests for the other gear positions to verify that I was testing it correctly and they passed. Going to need a new board.
