Subject: RE: COLDEST job on the farm

Oh thought of another one I dreaded. When I was a kid we had a wood burning furnace for only heat source. We cut alot of wood. DAD'S brillant idea was wood splits so much easier at 10-20-30 below ZERO. So "MY" job was to swing the splitting maul once so it stuck in the block,,,then dad took the sledge hammer and BEAT it thru. At those temps the handle vibrated violently,,,PLUS it never helped that MY gloves were hand me downs and ones with the holes in the fingers. Dad always said I was a pansy because my fingers would turn white as a ghost. His were never cold cause he had enuf blood flowing from working at it a little harder,,,,my job you just FROZE. Maybe thats why I hate COLD!!!! Nicer warmer days he just didnt split wood, too warm.
