A cat can run in long before the door shuts. Here is what I have done, it sounds unkind but it works. Cats are tough, you won't be doing permanent damage with this method. Shut the door, Take an old worn out BB gun that doesn't have much power get a flashlight and keep pelting the cat with BBs wherever it hides in the garage, providing you can find where it's hidden. It will be under the car, in the rafters, behind the deep freeze but keep at it. When it is getting good and crazy let it out the door. It won't be back. If it is merely under the car, take your push broom, go in front of the car, lay the broom under the car and give it a good hard shove to the rear. If you do it right the broom will go scooting out from under the rear of the car pushing a cat. Just a couple of gentle suggestions.
