I suppose the rifle may have a stock that does not fit you, therefore the recoil. I do know that some folks are more sensitive to recoil than others. I use a 338 Win Mag for elk and the recoil seems no worse than my 30-06 I use a Weatherby 7 Mag and no problem there either. I bet it is the way your rifle is stocked.
