The man who suggested a day for honoring all Veterans was from Emporia, KS, and it's called the founding city of Veteran's Day. If you visit Emporia, be sure to check out the mural at 10th and Commercial St. that honors all Veterans.
It was painted by my 1st cousin, whose father was a WWII Navy Veteran in the European Theater. My cousin is an art teacher in the primary grades. When the mural was commissioned to be painted, she painted 4 different Veteran's themed paintings for selection, and all were approved. She had her primary grade school students vote on the painting they wanted her to paint as the mural, and that is the one she painted on the side of the building. It was painted in 2003, marking the 50th anniversary of Veteran's Day, and as a tribute and honor to all Veterans.
