I think it is better described as trust.
Belief is what is used to describe things that can not be proven, no evidence to back them up, claims of something with no facts behind it.
Trust is put in someone who has the knowledge and ability to prove what they are saying.
we do not need to prove it ourselves when experts tell us something that is agreed by many of those in that field of knowledge.
BTW next year we will be able to 'prove' that calculation of the eclipse us true or not.
Faith on the other hand is used to describe what people 'just believe' about a religion that there is no evidence of their god existing .
They have to have 'faith' because there is no evidence or facts to show it is true.
Discernment is good but how can you use it until you have things based on facts.
With no facts there is no need to consider the claim and no need to discern whether it is true or not.
