North Central Iowa
Very sorry to hear of your loss. They are a member of the family. I just got a new red heeler this summer. I got female because they seem to stay focused on tasks at hand better. WITH the pup that remains to be seen.

Leave dew claws and tail alone. Tail is balance and dew claws are for the tight corners. When flat out look at how close they get to ground with their elbow in corners.

The reason they say to remove them is in case they get hurt. AS above dewclaws are sensative but for tails all I heard was to remove so they don't get burs in them. IN that case shaving your dog would do same.

I recommend fixing them but if you want pups that is up to you. I rally don't want heeler/basset hound puppies or other sneaky neighbor dog is around.
