High Springs, Florida | In June of 1973, after graduating high school, my father and I went to the Chevy dealer, and he bought a new 1972 C10 pickup loaded for $3600. I bought the 1973, 3/4 ton with 350 V8 and 4 speed manual with 16" tires on split rims for $3500. I put $500 down and the payments were $97 for 3 years!! A year or so later I bought a used 1967 RS Camaro, 327 Powerglide, for $1200, with 30,000 miles on it! I remember looking at a new 1972 John Deere 820 diesel for $3200. I think a 1520 was around $4500. By 1977 the '73 was a rusted hulk and I traded it in for a similar 1977 model that cost me $4800. In 1960 my father built a new house, about 1200 s.f. 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, on a basement, with attached 2 car garage for $18,000. I still have some of the bills from it's construction. $135 to dig the basement. $4500 for materials and framing. $175 to pour and finish the garage floor. |
