So how much did you earn for an hours work, off farm?
My first job as a 15 year old (if anyone asks tell them you are 16) was 80 cents an hour forking green peas into a stationary pea viner from heaps dumped by trucks fresh from the field.
Worked night shift, started at 5pm and went until day shift came on at 5am.
Only lasted a few weeks through the heaviest harvest period when they needed 24 hour production to stay ahead of ripening crops but my first pay cheque. | |
