| In the heat of the summer,,,which was often way over 100,,,rode my bike into town for baseball practice,,then to swim pool for a quick dip to cool down,,,then to the Dairy Sweet for a "25 cent" chocolate malt,,,with the REAL malted milk powder.
After high school bought a brand new 1969 Z-28 Camaro off the dealer floor for $3975,,then off to work to pay for it. think my payments were about $65/month and worried I might lose it.
later was working a steady 60 hour week at a local packing plant. Can recall the wage was $3.13 /hr but your butt was dragging after many many months of those 60/hr/wk with NO breaks. Should have heard the whooping and hollering of joy when they announced a SHORT day once in a while. Worked like a dog and everybody made sure the chain didnt stop so we got 5 to 10 minutes of "sunshine"
Made a lot of spending money/ fair money picking up beer and pop bottles for 1 or 2 cents a piece along the highway we lived on,,,really hated those no return bottles. Used a horse and had to get off and back on for each bottle found
At the Rusty burger barn always bought 3 hamburgers,2 fry's and a chocolate malt for a buck I think. Anything less wasnt a full meal | |
